Daycare....CHECK!

I'm thrilled to be able to check one thing off the long list of things we need to do before the baby arrives. We put a deposit down at a wonderful daycare today to hold a spot for our baby. Many people have told me that good in-home daycare providers fill up early and can have a hard time projecting when and if they will have space. Being the planner I am, this caused me a bit of panic. :)

We were sooo lucky that our friend Kenna was getting ready to move her little girl into preschool, which opened up a spot at her daycare for our little one! Knowing that both Kenna and Kristi have trusted their girls at this daycare for years makes me feel so comfortable.

Next on the list - finally deciding on furniture for the nursery. We're between several options, stay tuned for a decision soon.

Peek a boo

Our 16 week appointment was yesterday morning. The doctor said everything is looking good! The baby didn't want the doctor to listen to his/her heartbeat with the portable doppler thing (again!), so we got to have another sonogram.

It was great to see the baby again - next time we'll get to find out if we're having a boy or a girl!

It's a bit tough to tell from the picture; however, this is the baby's face and you can see the little spine as well.

Poor 'lil Madison

Madison had a rough week last week. She had her teeth cleaned on Thursday for her very first time - apparently seven years was WAY too long to wait. Poor lil thing had to have six teeth pulled! She is on antibiotics to kill any infection left from the dead teeth that were pulled. We felt horrible!

Like I said before, we had a family Christmas celebration on Saturday and sometime during the early evening, Madison must have eaten something. She was drinking lots of water and around 10pm I noticed that her belly was HUGE and swollen. I googled it a bit and found some terrifying results of something call Bloat. Appparently the dog's stomach gets bloated, then it flips over and it's usually fatal unless it's treated immediately.

So, around 11pm off we went to Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Clinic. Although it wasn't busy when we called about Madison, there were at least six other couples waiting when we got there. Luckily they took her back right away and decided they needed an xray of her tummy to determine if she had Bloat. The xray looked good and they determined she had food bloat (too much food apparently) so we were able to go home around 12:30am. She couldn't eat anything or drink much on Sunday until she digested everything in her tummy. By Sunday evening she looked good and was able to eat again.

We hope she gets all of this out of her system before the baby comes!

A Wii Christmas

Today we had our last Christmas celebration for 2008. Linda, Leland, Kelli, David, Trent and Taylor came up for the day and we hung out, opened presents, ate turkey and played Wii. Finally our house had something fun for the kids (young and old) to do! Wii and Wii Fit provided endless entertainment as everyone learned their "Wii Age" and brushed up on their tennis, skiing or bowling skills.

In other news, Scott and I have apparently not perfected our turkey cooking skills. We were hoping the second time was a charm; however, the turkey chose not to be done cooking at our target time. An HOUR later, we took the turkey out and it was wonderful.

Trent and Taylor are having a sleepover at our house tonight. They we very excited to sleep in "their" room at our house.

I want FRUIT

Several people have asked me if I'm craving anything - especially anything odd. Very early in my pregnancy I was leaving for work and trying to decide what to have for breakfast. Somehow a frozen fruit bar seemed like the best thing to eat on my way to work. For all those who know me well, I'm a "bit" prone to spilling on myself. I had my coat on so I kept it zipped up to protect my shirt and I took a towel to lay across my lap while I drove - success! I made it to work without spilling. We've kept our fridge well stocked with frozen fruit bars since then. That's not exactly an odd craving, but I bet I looked odd eating a popsicle as I drove into work.

Lately I have been in LOVE with pineapple - but only fresh pineapple. I can't get enough of it. Really any kind of fruit sounds great - apples, grapes and oranges are all yummy. I can't wait until spring when we can go to the farmer's market and get all sorts of fresh fruit!

Scott has said that I need to avoid the Food Network while I'm pregnant. After watching the Food Network for a little while, I'm "craving" all sorts of things. The only one that has really stuck was bagels - poor Scott had to run to the grocery store one Saturday morning to get bagels and cream cheese. YUM!

Luckily I haven't developed any huge food aversions. I used to be a huge fan of eggs and that has faded - they just don't sound good anymore. Chicken is also something I've avoided recently.

Jello

I was thinking today that jello sounded really good - we'll have to make some soon. This sparked a conversation where a friend asked if I've had green jello with cottage cheese. BLEH - don't say gross things like that around the pregnant lady! From there the conversation turned to orange jello with carrots (just cause they match, it's NOT okay to mix them), green jello with pears (better but still kinda yucky).

I've typically only had various fruit in jello (mandarin oranges and orange jello - YUM), not these odd conconctions I keep hearing about. How about you - what "creative" jello combinations have you had?

While Eden was napping, Jen and I played Wii. Scott and I have been fairly Wii obsessed lately, our latest purchase was a Wii Fit which is so much fun! After doing the initial evaluation the Wii asked if I tripped often - LOL not sure how it knew me already, but it sure does. :)

A Bewildering Place

I promise never again to give my friends a hard time for not posting on their blogs. During the day I think of all sorts of great blog posts; however, when I get home, the ideas are gone - or the motivation to blog is gone. :)

We decided it was time to start looking at nursery furniture this week. We already checked out Nebraska Furniture Mart, but wanted to see some more options. We set out to visit Babyland and Kids Rooms; however, they were closed on New Years day so we ended up at Babies R Us.

For all of you moms out there, Babies R Us is the greatest place on earth. For those of us expectant moms or people without kids and shopping off a registry - it's a bewildering place. I thought magically we might have gained some knowledge that would help us navigate the store and the myriad of products. No such luck. We wandered the aisles checking out all sorts of cool products but not knowing what we needed. Looks like we still have lots of learning to do. :)

The good news is we left there and went straight to the bookstore and bought a book a few of my friends had recommended called Baby Bargains. I've made it through the cribs chapter and am feeling MUCH more informed. WHEW!

More learning to come...there really will be something new each day.
