Belated Shower Post

I've been super slow posting pictures from the wonderful shower Jill and Liz threw for us at work.

The adorable (and tasty) cake! How cute are those rattles?

Wow, this looks like endless entertainment for the lil guy! Thanks Liz, Kyle, Joshua and Travis!

Diaper cakes are too darn cute to take apart - I love the shoes and K on the cake Jill made.

We received not one but TWO beautiful handmade blankets - have I mentioned that we're so lucky to have such wonderful friends? The blankets photographed wonderfully - I on the other hand look odd in those two pics. Trust me - they're gorgeous and will get so much use!

We were so overwhelmed to receive our pack and play as the gift from the group - a big thank you to everyone!!

There was some debate about if these sippy cups were for me or for the baby. :)

Scott's new ride

We've been debating about a new car for a while now - it was either make a few repairs to Scott's car or decide that it had reached the end of its life with us and trade it in. All of the car specials and financiang offers helped convince us and totay we bought a Chevy Malibu!

"How wonderful life is..."

"now you're in the world." from the Elton John song is the quote our lil guy will "read" while he has his diaper changed. I ordered the quote from Uppercase Living and was thrilled with how it turned out and looks on the wall. Sorry the wall color looks different -different cameras.

We finally decided to put the initial above the crib and surround it with a few circles in coordinating fabric. I'm really happy with how it turned out - in this pic you can also see one of the quilts my mom (quilter extroirdinaire) made.

We also added a few shelves to the room so we would have somewhere to store cute things (like the sock bouquet Jen made) as well as books.

I think the room is "almost" finished!! I'm happy with the end result!

Showered by Friends and Coworkers

On Thursday afternoon, Liz and Jill threw us a baby shower at work. More pictures to follow; however, I was overwhelmed by how kind and generous everyone was (and has been throughout all of our showers). Thank you to all of our friends and family - we're so lucky!

A picture of me with Liz and Jill - the fab hostests.

A guy day

While the ladies of the family were at the baby shower that Jen, Kenna and Erika threw, the guys headed out to the K to check out the renovations to the stadium. They were impressed by the new additions and improvements. Unfortunately, the Royals lost - by just one point - but they still had a great time.

Michael in front of the George Brett statue. He must not have been ready to have his pic taken - he was excited to go to his first MLB game!

Dave and Chuck - always sporting Nebraska colors - even to a Royals game. :) Now sure what they're pointing to, but it looks like they're having fun.

Super weekend

What a great weekend! We had family in town for a baby shower on Saturday - Friday night everyone had dinner at my parent's and it was good to see everyone and catch up.

On Saturday, the "girls" headed to the baby shower and the "boys" headed to the K to watch the Royals play. They went out several hours before the game to check out all of the new stuff at the stadium. Unfortunately the Royals lost (by one point!) but they had a great time!

Jenn, Kenna and Erika hosted a beautiful baby shower for me on Saturday. I'm so lucky to have such great friends! The food was fabulous, decorations adorable and Jenn had the great idea to have me take a picture with each person as I opened their gift! It was great - and now I have a picture of me with each person that I can pair with the advice tag in the shower scrapbook Jenn started for me!

The yummy food and super cool baby sock flower arrangments - how can I take those apart?!

A few pics of me with people - Liz and I.

My mom (aka the quilter extrodinare) anad I. This baby will be very warm with beautiful quilts.

Shower

This afternoon Scott's coworkers threw us a baby shower. I really enjoyed seeing everyone and it was a fun shower! The cake was fabulous (I just had another piece a little bit ago) and Rose made these fantastic pizza squares that were quite tasty (and a big hit).

We received many wonderful things that will make caring for the lil guy much easier, and some that will make it a lot more fun! :) I was so excited to get several books - I loved having books read to me when I was little, and I look forward to doing the same with our little guy. We are lucky to have such great friends and coworkers.

Below are some pictures of the afternoon.

The 'lil guy's official KC MO fireman shirt! Thanks Chris and Kate!

Some of the gang enjoying cake and punch.

The yummy cake.

The adorable diaper cake that Rebecca made! She's super mom - she just had her first baby a month ago!

Surprise Shower

Scott was surprised at school on Wednesday morning with a baby shower by his student council students! They brought him breakfast and so many wonderful gifts. One of the students even made a mini chipboard scrapbook album - it is so adorable! I think one of Scott's favorite gifts was baby's first laptop - how appropriate! :)

We're so lucky to have such wonderful friends, coworkers and family!

Caveat Emptor La-Z-Boy

I've been a fan of La-Z-Boy furniture for years - my family has always owned it and it was quality furtniture with good customer service.

Unfortunately, this quality and customer service seems to have fallen by the wayside. I just spent several MONTHS arguing with La-Z-Boy to ensure that I did not lose money on a warranty exchange. Long story short, we had two recliners that needed warranty work. The model of chair was no longer manufactured so they could not be repaired.

Under the warranty we were entitled to select two new chairs. The two chairs we selected as replacements happened to cost less than the original chairs. I spent at least a month arguing with La-Z-Boy store management that I should not lose the difference between the old chairs and new chairs - this amount should come to me in a store credit. After speaking with the customer service center and asking to talk to the district manager, we received a store credit in the appropriate amount. I *hope* this issue is resolved; however, I have yet to receive written documentation of my store credit.

If you have furniture with La-Z-Boy and have an exchange or repair completed, double and triple check how much they are charging you. If I hadn't paid attention, we would have paid for delivery (again), fabric treatment (again) and not received the sale price on the furniture.

Childbirth Class

Sunday we had a childbirth class ALL day, from 9am to 4pm. We wanted to go to the class (obvisously since we signed up and paid for it); however, it was tough to get excited to sit in a classroom all day on a weekend!

It ended up being a great day. The teacher kept the class moving and really did a great job keeping everyone engaged. Time went quickly and we learned a lot that we didn't know. We got to take a tour of the birthing area of the hospital - good news, the hospital has wifi so you can expect baby pictures to be posted here after the birth! Our main questions going into the day were "How do we know when to go to the hospital" and "When is the optimal time for an epidural". Okok, the second question was mine, not Scott's. Regardless, we got all the questions answered and feel like we know a bit more than we did before.

Busy Weekend

We had a great weekend - very busy, but it was lots of fun. Late Saturday morning we headed down to the River Market to go to the farmers market. We got lots of fruit and veggies then had lunch at this wonderful little greek restaurant.

Next we headed to the Hermes Nursery wholesale plant sale. They are normally not open to the public, but twice a year they have a public sale. We went to their fall sale and ever since we left, Scott has had the spring sale on his calendar. We were looking for plants for our new planter area in the backyard. We got a great deal on several plants - Scott was like a kid in a candy store. :) He could hardly wait to get home and start planting. Check out his project...I think it turned out pretty well!

Madison had a great time following Scott around outside. She's a big helper when he mows, lays mulch, digs holes for plants, etc. Check out the green paws - evidence she's been helping!
