Growing boys

We measured the boys on June 23rd and again today - they've both grown at least a half inch in less than a month!  We have two boys that are growing fast!

On The Road

We had grand plans of getting up early today and hitting the road to Linda and Leland's house.  Since we were all up late watching fireworks, we slept in a bit later than we had planned, then hurried up and hit the road.

Here we are, loaded and ready to go.  Liam is hiding behind my head - darn rear facing carseats make it tough to get him in pics.  Safety, blah blah blah. :)

The boys played trucks to pass the time.

They read books.

And when we tried to convince Karsten to take a nap, this was his protest. Liam was already asleep.

I searched Yelp for lunch options so we could have something other than fast food.  We ended up at Moukas, a coffeehouse and restaurant.  It was very good and they had fantastic iced tea.  Ever since I gave up my Diet Dr Pepper habit in May, I'm a big fan of good iced tea.

The boys enjoyed being out of the car and able to walk around.  They were good at lunch, so we got sugar cookies for dessert.  After dessert, they didn't want to get back in the car, but when we reminded them that they get to see Grandma and Grandpa soon, they gave in.  On the road again!

Happy Birthday America!

We were having my parents over for a BBQ before fireworks and while we were at the pool, we decided we should make sangria.  After a quick run to the liquor store and gathering a bunch of fruit out of our fridge, the sangria was in process.  It turned out delicious!  Everyone loved it - we'll totally be making this again!

We're also still eating our blueberries that we recently picked, so when I saw this Red, White and Blue Trifle on a blog I follow, I knew we had to make it.  Fresh strawberries, blueberries, angel food cake and whipped cream - does it get much better than that?  We haven't been disappointed with a single recipe we have tried from this site, so I knew it would be fantastic.  The good new was it tasted as good as it looked!

After dinner, we headed out to get a good spot for the fireworks. This would be Liam's first fireworks since we were in Colorado for the 4th last year and they were in a burn ban which meant no fireworks.

His reaction when hearing some big booms for the first time.  For some reason, he wanted to bring his blankets with us - usually they stay at home and just come out at bedtime.

Happy Birthday America!

Can you tell he didn't want to stop playing for a picture?

Our attempt at a family picture.

Liam was very frustrated that his cup would not fit in the cupholder regardless of how hard he tried.

Glow sticks help kill time!

Fun for all ages! I think I blinded him with the flash!

I think Karsten was wearing ALL of the glow sticks by this point...

Except for these two that Liam managed to hang onto.

And finally the fireworks began. I love the wonder in his eyes.

And finally, the fireworks began!

A family 4th of July!

We plan to hit the road to Scott's mom's house tomorrow, but decided to spend the 4th of July at home. We started the day with Scott's yummy breakfast burritos then played while we waited for the pool to open.

I think we beat the rush, because the pool wasn't crowded at all.  Liam has been a bit timid when we first get in the water, but he quickly relaxes and floats around on his tummy even kicking a bit.  We haven't had much luck getting him to move his arms yet, but it will come.  After swimming for a while, we took a break for a snack.  Dried mango anyone?

Just relaxing by the pool, getting ready to hop back in for a bit.

Showing off his kicking skills.  He is getting so good in the pool, he's doggie paddling all around and starting to use his arms when we remind him.

This was a great, relaxing start to our long weekend!

Haircut...again

The boys' hair, especially Liam's, grows extremely quickly.  I think the boys inherited it from Scott who has to get a haircut every three weeks or his hair touches his ears which he hates!

This was the first time Liam sat in the cars during his haircut.  Until today he has been afraid of the cars and wanted to sit on Scott's lap.  I guess this means he's growing up .

Intently watching tv while he gets his haircut.

Backup ride

When the scooter is in timeout, the bike actually gets some attention.  The scooter seems to have given him more confidence to ride his bike.  He's seen that he might fall off the scooter, but that he will be ok and can give it another try.

Happy Birthday Grandma

The boys were excited to Facetime with Grandma so they could sing her Happy Birthday!
