Rookie Mom

On Thursday, Karsten woke up with a slightly swollen eye. We watched it through the day and thought he must have a cold in his eye. I called the nurse and she said if it was worse in the morning we should come in. After the doctor's office closed (of course!) we remembered we had eye drops from when Karsten was only a few weeks old - a quick call to the after hours nurse at Children's Mercy (love that service btw) and we gave him the eyedrops.

He had a stuffy nose which we assumed also was causing the swollen and goopy eye. He would have an occasional cough but usually after he ate or burped. This morning he woke up having quite the coughing fit - he almost made himself sick from coughing! We got him up and he kept coughing even after he got up. We were worried his cold might have turned into something else - hopefully not the dreaded swine flu.

Luckily our pediatrician has Saturday hours during the winter (love that too!) so we called and they said to come on in! A quick exam by the doctor and Karsten was pronounced with....A COLD! He had a periodic cough from the drainage - probably more in the morning after laying down all night. O well, the doctor may have thought we were rookie first time parents but I felt better having received a doctor's opinion.

After the doctor it was 9am and we were up and around - perfect time to go to IHOP. Karsten took a nap and we had pancakes...YUM!

Watching Frederick the frog on his carseat. We have lots of conversations with Frederick in the car.

Scott buckling him in after the appointment.

Looking all cute and snuggly in his pj's
