While we were waiting for our tour to start, sitting on Scott's sholders helped keep Liam from touching everything on display.
Liam was all about being carried today - especially by Grandma or Papa!
The first stop on the tour was the baby cows. At first the boys were timid and didn't want to touch them, but then they got comfortable enough to pet the calf.
Liam said 'baby moo!'
He also said 'aww baby'.
All of the cows waiting 'in line' to get milked were near the baby cows. The boys didn't want to get too close to them - can't say I blame them. They're huge!
After checking out the big cows, we went back to the baby moo again.
This cow slobbered on Liam's jacket. Liam said 'Mommy! Baby moo me kkkkkrrr krrrrr (sound for dirty)' while he pointed to his coat.
I think they could have watched that baby cow for a lot longer, but it was time to move along to the next stop on the tour!
'BYE baby moo!'
The next stop was the milking station. Liam had a good view from his perch on papa's sholders.
Karsten was brave and put his finger into one of the milking things (technical term).
Then we headed into the place where they bottle the milk. They had the line running with water since they weren't bottling milk today. This board shows how much they bottle of all their variations.
We also got to check out an antique milk truck that they refurbished. It was interesting to hear about how the old milk trucks used to work. For example, the woman said they would pack the truck full of ice at the beginning of the day, and several hours later the floor of the truck would be full of water as all of the ice melted. She also said the milk man could either drive the truck standing up or sitting down.
And the last stop on the tour - taste testing. We tried regular, chocolate, cotton candy, root beer, strawberry, espresso and banana. I'm not a milk drinker but I sampled all of them except banana - I hate bananas! Liam wouldn't touch the milk but Karsten loved all of them, even the espresso flavor.
Before we left, we sampled ice cream sandwiches made with Shatto milk. They were delicious!
Papa tried to take a bite of Karsten's sandwich.
But there was no sharing for Karsten - he wanted it all to himself, it was that tasty!
It was a fun tour - great to hear about a local company that's doing so well and growing rapidly!
