Going to Old Settlers has been an annual tradition since I was in elementary school. When I was in Junior High and High School, I marched in the parade with the band, in college I was occasionally home for Old Settlers weekend. Now, it's fun to take the boys to get a grange pub, enjoy the carnival and walk around.
Karsten was a fan of his grange pup (aka corndog). I don't think grange pups are as good as they once were. Perhaps they lost the secret recipe, or maybe I'm just more picky (nah!), but they just don't taste as good.
Elam enjoyed his grange pup as well.
Oh, these balloons were the bane of our existence for a while. When we started, all four kids had a balloon. First, the clip came off Liam's balloon and the balloon flew away, he was left with just a string. We went to get another balloon for him and somehow, Karsten's balloon started to loose air. I don't think it got tied all of the way, so we went to get HIM another balloon. Jenn and I were talking and all of a sudden she said 'Uh oh' then I realized someone was screaming. Oh jeez, that's my kid screaming! Scott was carrying a screaming Karsten who was upset because his balloon flew away. Jenn saved the day by going to get ANOTHER balloon for Karsten. We tied this one of his wrist and he held tight to it. Who knew balloons could cause so much drama.
Liam showing off his string where his balloon used to be.
The kids were all concerned about someone else's balloon that floated into the sky.
Finally, everyone happy about their balloons!
We headed over to the carnival, but the lines just to buy tickets were crazy long, so we didn't stay too long. After a few longing looks at the merry-go-round, we convinced these guys to go find dessert.
Eden and Elam shared a slushy and Karsten got a smore. He had temporary issues when he decided he didn't want the chocolate on the smore (sigh), but we managed to convince him to try and and see how good it was.
The grownup dessert was frozen cheesecake dipped in chocolate. YUM! I'm so skipping the grange pup next year and going straight for this.
Having fun!
Look who got a bite of Jenn's cheesecake.
Liam was a trooper as we walked all over - but by the time we were having dessert, he was done with the stroller. After playing a bit with the balloons, he was a happy camper. We headed home with two worn out boys. One riding happily in his stroller and one whining about how he DIDN'T want to go home and how he WASN'T tired. :)
