Tech Support

My mom's laptop recently died - gave her the famous blue screen of death and would never again turn on.  They got a new laptop and Scott was called in to do tech support.  Due to the impending snowstorm, our tech support plans changed and we met for dinner to get the laptop for Scott to set up at our house.

After dinner, Karsten asked Papa for ice cream, so we walked over to Dairy Queen and got ice cream.  It was chilly outside, but it's never too cold for ice cream!

It was a fun night - aren't we lucky that Scott is such good technical support!

Four...and a half

This boy is ready to be five - every day he has a new idea of something that he wants for his birthday. We've had requests for Captainan (that's not a typo) America, Batman and Hulk.  His birthday in June may as well be tomorrow, because he is planning it all out -right down to the guest list.  I keep telling him I'm going to put bricks on him so he will stay my baby and not grow up.  Thankfully, he promises he'll still be my baby even when he's 'old'.

Dinosaurs in our house!

Scott learned about this AR Dino App from one of his coworkers.  At first, Karsten couldn't figure out why Scott asked him to hold his out like this, but when we showed him the picture, he wanted to do more.

Running away from the dinosaur was a popular picture.

He wasn't as excited to watch while Scott took a picture of Liam with the dino.

Liam wasn't as into the dino - we showed him the picture and he made a dino sound.

All the boys thought it was funny when the dino was coming to get me!

Oh no, a dino my kitchen! :)

A circus

I bet you thought this post was going to be tales of a trip to the circus. No circus pictures here, just a tale of a necklace.  One time when I wore this necklace, Karsten told me that he liked my necklace.  In the next breath, he said 'you can wear that to the circus, Mommy'.  Ummmmm, thanks?

Each time I wear this necklace, I think of Karsten....and the circus.  :)

Tables

There's something about tables that make them irresistable places for kids to play.  I remember playing under the table with Gaga when she would come visit.  And, when we went to her house, we would always play cards or dolls under her table.  It was our own little fort where no one else was allowed.  I should look for a picture to scan and share.

Lately, the boys have been playing together under the table.  The dining room has random toys under the table as they gather the needed toys to play.  It's fun to listen to them talk to each other - while they can be frustrated and angry with each other at times, in these moments they are so sweet and nice.

Sunday routine

Each Sunday on the way to church, we remind the boys of the rules - inside voices, listen and sit in your seat. They always start great - sure, we have to remind them to use inside voices, but for the most part, they follow the rules.

Karsten goes to Children's Church, and when Liam sees him leave, he holds up his hands and says 'yaya??' Then when Karsten returns, Liam excitedly says YAYA!  YAYA!  YAYA!  We've working on having that converstion in a quiet voice, but Liam really only has one level of talking.

Toward the end of mass, they both get antsy.  We've read the books I brought, done the mazes, played with the trains, had a snack, played with stickers and drawn a bit.  If we make it through without any outbursts, we're home free. It's always such a relief when we've had a good day at church - it sets the tone for a good day.

When we were walking out to the car today (a good day), Liam didn't want to hold our hands, so I asked him if he wanted to hold Karsten's hand.  Immediately, he said 'YEAH!' and Karsten happily obliged.  When we got to the parking lot, I took Karsten's hand and Scott took Liam's hand.  We reminded them that we always hold hands in a parking lot - Karsten said 'we have a lot to teach Liam, don't we mommy'.  How cute is that?

Breakfast

The boys are big breakfast eaters - we go through a lot of hard boiled eggs at our house.  Scott has mastered boiling the eggs after they've aged a bit to ensure the shells will peel off.  Since the boys always want to help, they get to peel their own eggs.

See that little pile of shells in front of Liam?  About half of those fell on the floor on the way to the trash can - a hazard of letting them peel their own eggs and help with the cleanup.

Celebration!

Karsten had his first birthday party at a gym this weekend, and it was a hit.  He had a great time on the rope swing (once he decided to try it) and had a ball jumping on all the mats.

What kid wouldn't love jumping into this?  Can you spot Karsten?  His outfit helps him blend into the blocks.

After lots of fun playing in the gym, it was time to sing Happy Birthday to Jaxon!

Karsten was far more interested in the cake than ice cream.  He's not a huge chocolate fan - he'll tell you, 'grandma and I don't like chocolate cake'.  He came home and was excited to tell me all about the party.  He saw a bunch of new toys to add to his running 'birthday wish list'.

Liam's friend

Each morning, Liam and I drop Karsten off at his school before I take Liam to Gail's.  We pack a breakfast for Karsten and he eats ,it at school.  I help him get situated then we're on our way.

One day, Liam was stealing Karsten's cheerios out of his bowl and Karsten said 'MOMMY, he's eating my breakfast!'.  Before I could redirect Liam to something else, one of the teachers asked me if Liam could have a snack of his own.  I said sure and she invited him to come with her.  When they came back, he was proudly holding a little baggie of cereal.

Since then, it's become a routine for Liam to get a snack from Ms Sharon. He'll walk over to her and put his hand up, or run up to her in the hallway and she'll pick him up.  She has a friend in Liam!  He'll blow her kisses and wave when we leave.

Cousins=endless fun!

We went to Topeka yesterday since Linda and Leland were visiting.  Karsten was so excited all week to see Trent and Taylor - he couldn't wait.

Trent checked out Karsten's tickle spots to make sure they were all still there.

It was impossible not to laugh at how much fun the boys were having together.

They chased each other and played hide and seek.

They even had some quiet time and read books.

And since Karsten can't read, Trent offered to read his new Ninja Turtle book to him.  He knew all the characters and even made fun voices.  Karsten was thrilled.

How cute is this?

Liam didn't want to be left out so he brought his book to Taylor.  Trent said he would read it when he was done with Karsten's book; however, Taylor wanted to read to him.

Liam took my water bottle and stacked it on top of Leland's gatorade bottle.  His blanket even got into the mix.

The boys talked Grandma into letting them play her iPad.  I think they were getting sleepy, they had a busy day!

This was the view from the frontseat shortly after we left Kelli's house!  Tired boys!

The 'awkward' card

When the boys and I had dinner with my parents, we also gave them a Valentine's card I had made online. My dad was looking at the card and asked 'why does it say 2012?'.  Ummm what?  I grabbed it, thinking he was kidding, but unfortunately, he was correct.  Right then, Karsten said 'AWKWARD'.

Hilarious, and well timed!

In case you were curious, the Shutterfly template had 2012 in the template and while it was editable, I assumed the year would be correct.  I bet I'm not the only one who gave this 'old' card on Valentine's day!

Happy Valentine's Day!

We had a wonderful Valentine's Day!  Since Scott was off school today, he came to meet me for lunch.  We headed to the sushi place near my office (again).  It's quickly becoming a favorite!  Our sushi was served on the boat again, so this time I got my picture taken with the boat.

When we got the boys haircut earlier in the week, their sylist told us about how they planned to get crab legs and lobsters for a nice dinner at home on Valentine's Day.  I saw the wheels turning in Scott's head as soon as she said that.  We had already talked about steak for dinner, and I knew he was seeing visions of surf and turf.

When I got home from work on Valentine's Day, Karsten excitedly told me about a surprise that he and daddy had for dinner.

You guessed it - a lobster, or mobster.  You choose.

The boys were enthralled with it, he didn't have much room to move in the box, so you could really only see his antanee move.

This was also waiting for me on the counter. What a wonderful surprise, and aren't the roses beautiful!  Scott said that Karsten picked out the color of the roses.  The wine in front is one that we love, and the two in the back were ones that we were watching for because we really wanted to try them.  Can't wait to give them a try!

Scott had done his homework on how to cook the lobster and had put lemons and herbs in the water with it.  We even had butter with lemon zest to dip the lobster in.

The boys were surprised that the lobster turned red after he was cooked!  It turned out great, very tasty and a great treat for a holiday.

One of my cute valentines.

After dinner, we gave the boys their Valentine's from us.  I was so excited that Liam loved these animal lacing beads we got for him.  He sat at the table for at least 15 minutes after dinner playing with them.  SUCCESS!

And Karsten loved his dinosaur that transformed into a motorcycle.  These transformers are great because they're easy for little hands to know how to transform.

It was a wonderful Valentine's Day!  I am so lucky to have three wonderful Valentines!  Hope you had a great day with your loved ones as well!

'Mobsters'

Scott had to work late tonight since it was teacher conference week, so the boys and I met my parents for dinner at Red Lobster.  Last time we were there, Karsten called the lobsters mobsters.  This time he started calling them mobsters, but by the time we were seated, he was saying it correctly.   It's always bittersweet when the adorable mispronouciations are corrected.

The boys were enthralled withe the mobsters.  I couldn't figure out why my phone was taking such blurry pictures.  Turns out my flash was off - whoops!

Karsten played the dot game with grandma.  I remember playing this game a lot with Gaga; however, Karsten has created his own interpretation where he always wins!

Liam and Papa shared a yummy chocolate brownie dessert.

Then we went back to our house so the boys could give grandma and grandpa the magnet with their handprint in the shape of a heart.

Grandma had brought the boys some Valentine goodies and they dug right in.

Aren't these shirts adorable?  These were one of the new designs my mom made for Valentine's Day!

Liam thought he was going to eat the whole box of sweet tarts; however, I managed to sneak half of them away from him.  He lined up all of the sweet tarts before he ate them.
