Easter book

Liam had an Easter egg hunt at Gail's today and she sent him home with his basket full of goodies like bubbles, chalk, candy, stickers and a book.

After we had a piece of candy, he wanted to read me his book on the way home.  Someone was hiding the mouse's eggs - who could it be?

Mail from Grandma

The boys love to get mail, and were thrilled today to get a big envelope from Scott's mom.  Karsten got to open it with close supervision from Liam.  He pulled out a note for us to read for him before dumping out the envelope.

There was lots of excitement once they saw all the stickers and mints from Grandma.  And they were also thrilled to see money.  Thanks for a fun package, Granda!!

P.S. Check out Liam's socks.  See that santa on his ankle?  He has two pairs of Christmas socks that he insists on wearing all the time. It's not a battle I've chosen to accept - he's just bringing a bit of holiday spirit to March.

Spring?

The weather lately has been teasing us - it will be in the 70's one day then plunge back into the 50's the next day.  While I love winter and am disappointed that we didn't get a big snow, the hint of spring is great.  I enjoy having more light in the evenings and temperatures that beg us to get out of the house.

Care package

The boys know good things are packed inside when they get a package from Gaga.  Today was no exception when Gaga sent an Easter package.

Candy, books, puzzles, airplanes - these are two lucky boys!  Thank you Gaga for always sending such great packages for the boys!

Egg Hunt

The annual Easter Egg Hunt at my work was this weekend.  We were on the fence if we were going to attend, because Liam had swim lessons that morning and the weather was supposed to be quite chilly (less than 40 degrees!) We  evaluated in the morning and determined that while it was chilly, we would give it a try.

We arrive in the knick of time and snapped a quick picture before the hunt got started.

Liam still falls into the first age group, so he got to go first.  He stepped over a lot of eggs and seemed to be hunting for only blue eggs.  I asked him why he only wanted blue eggs and he thought he had to have blue eggs since he had a blue basket.  Once we told him he could collect any color he wanted, he was able to get a lot more eggs.

Karsten did not want to look at or smile at the camera.

No hesitation in picking up eggs from him - he was off and running when the horn sounded.

It was so chilly outside, everyone headed straight to their cars after the egg hunt and didn't stick around to chat like they have in past years.  I'm glad we were able to make it!

Swim lessons

We like to do the boys swim lessons in the spring so they will have a jump start on swimming before summer arrives.  They're doing their lessons at the nearby YMCA and we've been really happy with the teachers.  Liam is still in the parent/child swim class and Karsten lucked out with a class that was just him and another kid.

Since all swim lesson pictures look similar with slight changes in swim trunks, I'm combining all swimming lessons into one post.

Karsten was lucky and got good one on one time with his teacher.

He thought he was big stuff when he was in the middle of the pool on this platform.

I'm very impressed with Karsten's floating on his back.  Since I'm allergic to chlorine, I'm not a good swimmer (that's code for I can't swim), and I hate to get my face, head or ears wet.  I'm pretty sure that this move would make me feel like I was about to drown.

Liam was one of the older kids in his class, but the teacher did a great job offering suggestions to take the techniques to the next level.  One of these suggestions was gliding arms - I just think this is so stinkin' cute.

With the life vest on, Liam did a great job swimming mostly by himself with only one of Scott's hands on him.  He also did a barrel roll which made all of us laugh, including him.

Karsten was a very patient observer of Liam's swim lessons.  I often had to discourage him from yelling out suggestions for Liam.  For example, if he thought Liam wasn't using his arms right, he wanted to remind him about BIG arm pulls.

Another favorite was Liam kicking as hard as he could to splash Karsten on the side of the pool.

Kindergarten Roundup

Monday was Kindergarten Roundup/Screening at Karsten's new school.  We started talking about it on Saturday so he would know what to expect. When we talked about how I would take him and drop him off then come back in a little while to pick him up, he looked at me with a quivering lip and said 'what if I don't like it.'  We talked more about what he could expect, and reminded him that two of his friends from school would also be there.  Each time we talked about it he got more comfortable with the idea.

I picked him up from school before lunch and we had a lunch date together, Shortly after lunch we went to his new school.  On the way in he pointed out another boy who goes to his school that he knew, and as soon as we were inside he spotted his friends and ran over to talk.  I checked him in and talked to one of the other moms, then realized that Karsten was about to go back to the classroom.  I went over to give him a hug and tell him I would see him in a little bit.  He waved and off he went.

Two hours later I came back to pick him up and they were singing a song with the older kids.  Each of the older kids made a door hanger for one of the incoming kindergarteners to welcome them. It's now proudly displayed on his door, and you should have seen how excited he was when he showed Scott!

So...ready or not, we're about have a kindergartner.  EEK!

Wuffles

Karsten's pre-k class has a pet (stuffed) dog named Wuffles. They talked all about how to take care of a pet and each person in his class gets to take Wuffles home for 3 nights. The kids get to draw a picture of what wuffles did during his visit to their house.  So...no pressure, but that meant Wuffles has done a lot of fun stuff.

Wuffles got to play outside and help the boys build a volcano.

Wuffles even watched the science experiment where the volcano exploded. The boys thought that was pretty cool and Wuffles seemed entertained.

This is obviously the most comfy spot for a puppy to hang out.

And Liam wanted to take a turn with Wuffles, so he rode on Liam's sholder.

Karsten drew a picture of Wuffles going for a walk with us, and Grandma made Wuffles a blanket for his box.  The blanket didn't end up going back to school with Wuffles because Karsten decided his other stuffed animals needed a blanket and were loaning it to Wuffles.

I think Wuffles had a fun visit with us.  It will be fun to see the book that is created from the pictures the kids drew chronicling the adventures of Wuffles.

Breakfast Team

This morning, I showered and got ready for church while Scott went downstairs with the boys to get breakfast started.  When I came down, the boys were peeling their hard boiled eggs and Scott was making our eggs.  I'm a lucky gal...

After breakfast, the boys spent some time 'reading' their Lego magazines before church. We've become quite Lego obsessed at our house, and the Lego catalogs are very dog eared and have been read cover to cover more times than I could count.  We have a few long drives ahead of us in the coming months, and we really hope there will be a new Lego catalog out before we hit the road, because that will be hours of entertainment for them (and peace for us!)

The afternoon they got to spend some time playing with the iPads after we went to the park  .

Karsten was brave and tried the zip line on his own.

Liam really wanted to give it a try, but when it was his turn he backed away and said no.

So he was content to sit and watch Karsten and the other kids on the zip line.

Karsten showed off this skills to flip over on the bar.  Apparently there is a toy on the playground at his school where the kids like to hang upseide down or flip over, so he's a pro.  (I'm choosing not to worry about him doing this at school - it will do no good, right?  RIGHT?)

I love weekends together as a family - couldn't we make weekends be three days? They're just too short!

A special suit

This suit belonged to my Grandpa, Grampy, who was Karsten's great Grandpa.  Unfortunately, he passed away two years before Karsten was born and they never got to meet.  There are pictures of my Uncle Kevin and cousin Michael wearing this very suit, and Gaga sent it over to us so we could take pictures of the boys in it.

I almost waited too long to have Karsten put on this suit.  The vest was a bit too small and the sleeves are short, but I still think he looked pretty cute.

Looking at the size of the suit, I need to have Liam put it on before too long or it's going to be too small for him!  He didn't want to miss out on bing in a picture.
