We stopped at a baby store and bought furniture for the new baby, picked out potential paint colors for Karsten's new room, and stopped a few places I have been wanting to go. Exciting stuff, huh. :) It felt good to get all of that stuff done and check it off the list.
Then we headed downtown and did some shopping before we checked into our hotel and cleaned up for dinner. We went to Skies for dinner - it's a revolving restaurant on the top of a hotel. I had never been there before, it seemed like a great special occasion restaurant to check out.
This was the view we saw when we got off the elevator on the floor our hotel was on. Great view of the KC skyline - it's changed a lot in the last several years with the Sprint Center and the performing arts center. All great additions!
As we walked to our room, I said "I hope that's the view from our window." No such luck, but the view for our window was great as well. We had a wonderful view of Crown Center and the Liberty Memorial, the country's only WWI memorial.

I couldn't resist getting a picture of us in front of the great downtown view as we headed to dinner. It was so great that the restaurant was IN the hotel so we didn't have to brave the heat to go to dinner. I'm SO done with this heat!!

We scored a table next to the windows and sit back for a revolving view of the city. A few fun facts we learned - it takes approximately 1.5 hours for a complete revolution, there are 72 windows around the restaurant, you can see all the way to Arrowhead stadium if you look very carefully, and it can be a bit confusing to find the restrooms since the center part of the restaurant doesn't rotate but you do.

Another great view of the city with a good look at the new Performing Arts Center. I can't wait to go to an event there - it looks like such a cool building!

AH-mazing dessert - I think I need to try to recreate this at home. Graham cracker crust, ooey-gooey brownie, lots of marshmellow fluff on top that is slightly toasted. YUM!

They had a piano player in the lounge so we took our time and enjoyed dessert and drinks after dinner (they even had fun non-alcoholic drink choices - I was excited). The view was equally impressive after dark.

What a fantastic evening - Scott planned a wonderful getaway, a great celebration of ten married years together. I had low expectations of the food at Skies, typically places that are known for their atmosphere have marginal food; however, Skies impressed me! From the appetizer to the dessert, everything was flavorful, hot and well prepared. I would definitely recommend it for celebrating your special occasions!
