To introduce our Elf to Karsten, we watched the Elf on a Shelf show on TV. It explained to him that the Elf would fly back to the north pole each night and tell Santa all about Karsten's behavior during that day. When the Elf returned to our house, he would land in a different place in the house. Karsten would then have to find him.
Santa would use all of the information the Elf tells him to determine if Karsten had been naughty or nice. We explained that he couldn't touch the Elf, because if he did, the Elf wouldn't be able to fly back to the north pole to talk to Santa.
We decided to name our Elf Jingle Bells - Karsten calls him Jingy Bells. Below are pictures of some of the places Jingy Bells appears in our house.
