Playing hooky

Strawberry picking was our favorite fruit that we picked last year.  I had been watching the Facebook page of the strawberry patch, but all of the days they were open were either weekdays or on the day of Karsten's five year pictures.  So, when they posted that they would be open on Wednesday morning, I knew this was probably our last chance for the season. Since Scott was teaching summer school and couldn't come with us, I decided to take only Karsten and have a special date for the two of us.

I had read on their Facebook page that there were lines of cars waiting to get in when the farm opened, so we got there about 20 minutes before 9am and were the 7th car in line.  Once they opened, there were probably 25 cars in line.  We headed right out to the field and were excited to see so many ripe berries!

The berries were smaller than last year, but they were still sooo delicious!

Every so often, you have to try a berry to make sure they're still as delicious as you remember.

Having so much fun together and trying to figure out what we'll make with all these strawberries!

After a while, Karsten started hunting for big berries, so he would walk down the row trying to find big strawberries.

He found a big one, but he said it was too ripe so he better eat it right away.  :)

We ended up with about 10 pounds of strawberries - YUM!  I can't wait for strawberry smoothies, adult beverages with strawberries, strawberries on salad, strawberry desserts....I could go on and on.  We love strawberries!
