Lunch Date

Karsten's spring break started today, so Scott took the day off to watch the boys.  They came to meet me for lunch and we went to the sushi restaurant across the street from my office. It's a popular place with people from work, so there were a couple of my coworkers there that I waved to as we walked in.

I had pre-ordered online so we didn't have to wait long for our food to arrive - Scott and I were having sushi and the boys were sharing a bento box with chicken teriyaki, soup, rice and a california roll.  Karsten decided that he wanted to start eating on the opposite side of the bento box, so he spun the bento box around and knocked over his water.  Luckily, it had a lid on it so we were able to mop up the mess with several napkins.

We finished cleaning up that mess, got the chicken cut for the boys and I was about to take a bite of sushi when Karsten burst into tears.  In between sobs, he said it hurts, it hurts.  The wails got louder and it took me a second to figure out what was going on.  He had popped a pea to marble size ball of wasabi into his mouth.

The waitress was at our table pretty quickly asking if he was okay and if we needed anything.  I asked her for some milk, then grabbed his water and took him outside to calm down without an audience.  Poor guy, I felt bad for him, I've gotten too much wasabi a time or two, so I know the burn that he was feeling.  I admire his willingness to try something unknown and don't want to ruin that, I just wish he would ask if he wasn't sure.  This also happened on vacation last summer when he ate a jalapenos thinking they were pickles.

The kind waitress brought some milk outside and after he drank some milk and more water, he was ready to go back inside.  Thankfully, the drama ended for a while and we were all able to enjoy our meals.  For the grand finale to our lunch performance, I stood up to leave and tipped over my chair.

LOL - good thing we have a sense of humor and can laugh at ourselves.  We were quite the entertainment for the restaurant today!
