Just a Monday

Just a lil of this and that to share.

Trying on mom's shoes

Playing 'choooo choooo' with Dad. Each time Scott made a train noise, Karsten would mimic whatever Scott had just done.

We had our Parents as Teachers visit this weekend and it went great. She said that Karsten had passed all of the language milestones they normally look for at 24 months and she was impressed by how clearly she could understand what he was saying!

One of the skills she suggested we work on before the next visit was jumping. You might remember reading that he had already learned to jump. She suggested letting him try to jump off something low first, like several phone books. Scott suggested a sofa....umm, no.

We showed him how to jump off and he did the exact same thing. Monkey see, monkey do. :)

Scott lifting Karsten up off the phonebook showing him how to jump rather than just stepping off. .

Ready, set, go!

More work on jumping will be in our future. Keep your fingers crossed that they don't try to jump off anything higher while I am not around to be the voice of reason. :)

'Want Why'

We happened upon the show 'Super Why!' one morning, and now Karsten is a huge fan. Scott recorded a few episodes on his computer, now when Karsten sees the computer, he says 'Want Why'.

Here Karsten is trying to convince us to watch Super Why.

We gave in - Karsten enjoyed a few minutes of Super Why. He usually looses interest when they get to the reading part.

After Super Why, he wanted to draw. Scott showed him that if you sit on the sofa, we can raise the coffee table up to the perfect height for drawing.

Then we drove cars around the house. Thank goodness 'Papa' made three cars, because Karsten carefully gave one car to each of us then said 'let's go'. How can you refuse that?!

Blizzard prep

While we were eating lunch on Sunday, we noticed a lot of birds and squirrels scurring around the yard gathering food. They obviously had heard the weather report that a big snowstorm was coming our way.

Karsten had a lot of fun watching them - he can say 'bird' but 'squirrel' is a bit more elusive. He laughed each time the squirrels scampered by, I think he was entertained because they moved so quickly.

Strike a pose

The other day, Karsten was standing at the back door watching Scott knock icicles outside. I thought 'hey, there's really good light here, maybe I can get a good picture'...then it was like Karsten heard my thoughts and decided that I would NOT get a really good picture. :)

This is the best one - he actually looked at the camera. Too bad he has a funny expression on his face. Better luck next time, right?

Then he decided it was time to throw the ball.

Once the ball was on the floor, it was time to play soccer! He does a pretty good job chasing the ball around and kicking it.

'Uh-oh, where'd it go'

Tub Painting

We spent a great day on Saturday with Melissa and Kevin, sharing some of our baby knowledge and shopping to help them prepare for the upcoming arrival of their little boy. When we were at Babies R Us, we spied bathtub finger paint that looked like so much fun.

Scott and Karsten tried out the paint tonight - it was lots of fun, then Scott said it was more of a weekend bath activity because it makes such a mess. :)

Better with dip

I've mentioned before that Karsten loves to help Scott cook dinner. When Karsten and I got home from work tonight, Scott was getting ready to make the 'frosting' (aka glaze) for the meatloaf. Karsten tried Ketchup on his hamburger for the first time this weekend and as soon as he saw the Ketchup bottle (for the frosting) he wanted some.

When Karsten has dip, he only eats the dip, not the item he is dipping. For example, he repeatedly dipped the hamburger in Ketchup and then licked Ketchup off one piece of hamburger until all of the Ketchup on his plate was gone.

Scott was trying to get Karsten to help him stir, but Karsten just wanted to dip his spoon in the Ketchup then lick it off.

When Scott added the brown sugar to the Ketchup, Karsten quickly reached in and grabbed some and put it in his mouth before Scott could stop him. I don't think he was expecting the taste of brown sugar, I just caught the end of the funny face he made.

Lucky me - I have two chefs in the house!

'I draw'

Anytime Karsten sees a pen, he either says 'draw' or 'I draw'. Drawing with a crayon usually means pounding the crayon on the paper and making a bunch of dots. Drawing with a pen usually results in a few more lines. Tonight he spotted a pen on Scott's desk so we needed to do some drawing.

His expression in this picture makes me laugh - I wish I remembered what Scott had said that got this response.

Our little monkey

Karsten is growing up so quickly, it seems that every few days he adds a new word or phrase to his vocabulary. I think we've reached the stage where we need to watch our mouths unless we want a choice word we let slip out get repeated by Karsten.

Some new words are 'oh man' and 'oh boy' .

Say cheeeeeeese.

Balancing Madison's toy on his head and laughing. I had just put the toy on my head to get the smile in the previous picture. LOL.

Doing a little dance

Want dink

Tonight, Karsten wanted a drink of water so Scott decided to give him a drink from a cup rather than using his straw cup. Karsten has drank from a cup before; however, I think these two were feeling mischevious so this drink did not end without some extra fun.

It started very innocently, Scott took a sip because Karsten wasn't so interested in the real cup.

Seeing Scott take a drink made Karsten want a drink.

But the next time Karsten took a drink, Scott tipped the cup a little too far and spilled water on Karsten.

Then it became a game, Karsten would take a drink then 'accidently' spill some of the water on Scott.

Right after he took a drink, he would put his fingers in his mouth and water would leak out.

Dink, dink is what he would say before he lunged at the cup to play the game again.

This was a fun game that had all of us cracking up - good thing it was bath time because Karsten was a little bit wet from all of the water they 'spilled'.

Animal Parade

Karsten has a new game with the animals from his tractor. He'll gather all of the animals, one by one, in his arms and bring them over and set them up on my computer. It's funny to watch him try to balance all of the animals in his arms at once then gingerly set each animal down.

I tried to move one of the animals while he was setting them up - he did NOT appreciate that so I quickly put the animal back in it's rightful spot.

After he arranged all the animals, he backed away from them and giggled. Pure entertainment. :)
