Breck Summer Fun Park

The boys woke up BRIGHT and early on Monday morning - their first attempt at getting up was at 4:45am, and we said no way, back to bed!  They slept until around 6:30am which was about right given the time difference.

While I was showering, the lights started to flicker. This continued for a bit while we were all getting dressed, so I called the front desk and she said all of Breckenridge was having power issues.  The power eventually stopped going on/off and stayed off.  We headed out to explore the town and see if the gondolas were open and could take us up the mountain.

Lucky for us, the gondolas have generators so they were running.

Liam wasn't so sure about the gondolas and held onto me very tightly.  Karsten thought it was pretty cool!

It was a pretty view on the way up the mountain!

At the top of our list for the day was the Alpine slide for Scott and Karsten.  They had to take a chair lift up to get further up the mountain to the top of the Alpine Slide.  They said it was a long ride to the top!

They said it was great, Karsten's favorite ride of the day! Liam and I watched them and I asked LIam if he wanted to give it a try and he very matter of factly said 'nope.'

Next up was the inner tube ride down the ramp.  They got to ride up this little people mover to the top of a hill where the innertube slid down the ramp.

It was a beautiful view while we waited for Karsten's turn to ride the tube.

Here he comes all kicked back and relaxed.

Before we knew it, he was on his way back up the people mover for another ride!

Next, Karsten wasn't sure he wanted to try the ropes course so we watched another  her little boy give it a try.  After watching, it was less s  cary and he was ready to give it a try.

We kept asking Liam if he wanted to do the ropes course, and at first he said no.  But then he started pouting and wouldn't tell us what was wrong. We asked again if he wanted to do the ropes course and he said (in an exhasperated voice) "YES, I can do this (walk on this row of rocks), so I can walk up there."

Liam practiced walking on the rocks while Karsten was on the ropes course.

Karsten said that he liked the other side of the ropes course better because it was harder 'when you're six years old.'

He did a great job of carefully follonwing the instructions and carrying the carriage thingie (technical climbing term!) back to the beginning of the course.

Since he already had the harness on, Karsten agreed to give the zip line a try.

When we were watching him, I kept trying to guage if he was having fun or was super scared.  But honestly, I couldn't tell because his expression was so serious.

When he got to the end, they asked if he had fun. His response was 'Good' then he walked away.  LOL.  We asked if he wanted to go again and he said nope.

He took the harness off and headed back to the inner tube for a few more rides.

Meanwhile, Liam was ready to get suited up for the ropes course.

He looked so little on this platform.  He was afraid to take the first step down onto the platform because it was a big step and further from the platform than he was comfortable with.

Thankfully, this nice worker came over and offered him her hand to take the first step.  Once that step was behind him, it was smooth sailing.

He cruised over this log like it was easy!

While Liam was on the ropes course, it started to sprinkle.  He finished up with a few more trips across, then we went into the lodge (at the right of the photo below) to eat lunch.  I had read online that the food at the top was pricy and not great, so we packed a lunch today.  It worked out perfectly because the lodge has a huge area with tables and chairs, so we found a spot away from the rain and enjoyed our picnic.

By the time we were done eating, the sun was out again and the boys were ready to play mini golf.  Check out that form from Liam!

The boys also 'prospected' for gems.  Each of them ended up with a small black back of rocks that proved to be endless entertainment.

You dumped your bucket of sand and rocks into this tray, then you swished the tray in the water to uncover the rocks.

We waited in line for a bit for the ariel trampoline but after about 10 minutes (with about 35 more to wait), the boys decided they didn't want to do the trampoline and wanted to ride the innertube again.

This time, Liam decided to try the inner tube ride.  He wasn't so sure about the people mover, so Scott rode to the top with him.

Liam was doing great until halfway down the slide when his inner tube started to turn.  Then, he started to scream.  Needless to say, he did NOT want to ride it again.

Having a great day together!

Scott really wanted to take the chair lift even further up the mountain.  I thought the chair lift looked a little scary (how do you keep from falling out!), but he always does what I want, so I went along with it.

Liam shared my concerns about the chair lift.  When we got on, he wrapped his arms around the arm that I had around him and held on with a strong grip.  I had a pretty strong grip on the bar as well.

On the other hand, Karsten and Scott were loving it.  Karsten turned to the side and stretched his legs out on the seat (Scott's arm was still around him), and when Liam saw how Karsten was sitting, he said 'Karsten, your legs need to be like mine, they need to bend at the edge of the seat.'

Once we settled into the ride, Liam and I enjoyed it and were glad Scott wanted to go to the top.

At the top, there was a small trail that you could follow to go even higher on the mountain.  I was winded being at this high of altitude so I stayed put while the boys hiked up a ways,

While they hiked up, the clouds from the horizon started to get closer and closer.

The boys loved hiking up the mountain with Scott, but it was time to head back down.

It was a beautiful view, and we could see the rain pouring over certain parts of the city!

We didn't want to get stuck at the top of the mountain, so we decided to head back down before it started to rain.  About halfway down, I pointed out that there were no longer people coming up the chair lift on the other side.  We got to the bottom and they had closed the lift due to rain and storms.  Glad we made it down!

We had some time to wait before the gondolas down the rest of the mountain opened, so we headed inside for a snack.  We told the boys they could get whatever they wanted, and Liam picked an orange over chips and a cookie!  Since Liam did it, Karsten had to do it too!  I was a poud mom for their healthy choice!
