Day on the Farm

We had a relaxing day on Saturday, the boys played outside in the morning, then when it got too hot, we headed inside.  Liam was roly poly hunting and making sure they were all captured.

Once he gathered all of the roly polys on the sidewalk, Grandma helped him find a few more.

Not sure how many of the roly polys survived their capture - once he had them all in this container, he liked to shake them to make noise.

Karsten captured a baby grasshopper that was harder for him to keep track of than Liam's roly polys.  This time it hopped out of his hand and onto his shirt - he had a momentary freak out until we spotted it on the green part of his shirt.

Thank goodness he found hoppy the grasshopper!  When it was time to go inside for lunch, Karsten and Liam put their bugs (in their containers) on the patio where it was shady.

Since it was so hot in the afternoon, the boys got to spend time exploring all of Grandma and Papa's toys.

After dinner, Karsten asked Leland when we were going to the farm.  We hadn't planned to go out, but since the boys wanted to, we loaded up and headed out for a visit.

The boys were excited to feed the goats some hay - not all of them were willing to eat from their hands, but the boys had fun watching them.  There was a baby goat that was more playful and active than the others.

We had to check out the combines and huge tractor! The boys are so lucky that they get the experience to see these giant machines up close and even climb into them.

Before we knew it, Karsten had climbed up the ladder and was trying to get into the combine.  Then, Liam was right behind him trying to climb up.  Once Liam was on the first stair, he realized it was a tougher climb than he thought and he got scared.  Once we helped him and he got to the top, he loved it!

Good thing it wasn't on - Karsten was ready to drive!

Liam looks so tiny in this giant tractor!

Next, we rode in the pickup to go feed the cows.  Being the city girl I am, I started walking toward our van to drive out to the cows.  Obviously, the van would not be able to make it over the field where the cows were grazing.

So, Scott and I got into the back of the pickup (a first for me), the boys got into the cab with Linda and Leland and off we went. We were not going fast or far and we weren't on roads, so everyone was safe and sound.

When we got to the cows, the boys got into the back with us so they could watch Papa feed the cows.  They thought it was pretty cool and wanted to pet the cows.

What a cutie!

Next, we drove up the field to visit the donkeys.  They eyed us for a bit, but when they realized we were out of food, they moved along.

See ya later cows!

At Thanksgiving, the boys jumped on hay bales with Trent and Taylor.  When Karsten saw them, he immediately asked Papa to lift him up so he could jump from bale to bale.  Liam was torn - he wanted to follow Karsten but he was scared to be on top.

He got pretty proud of himself when he was comfortably going from bale to bale like Karsten!  Pretty cute to watch!
