Colorado, here we come!

Although the boys were sad to leave Grandma and Papa's house, they were excited to climb mountains!  We set off bright and early so we had time to do some sightseeing along the way.  Also, potty breaks and meal times take a bit longer than it does when it's just Scott and I.

These Squigz are great entertainment on road trips, the only problem arises when they fall off the windows or whatever they're stuck to and no one can reach them.  I think we could use another set of these and have even bigger creations.

As soon as we crossed into Colorado, we said 'Yay, we're in Colorado now!'  Karsten looked out the window and said 'Wow, Colorado looks a lot different than Kansas!'  Scott and I burst out laughing, because if you've ever driven through eastern Colorado, it looks a LOT like western Kansas.

Once we were a bit further into Colorado, we were all excited to see the mountains in the distance!

We stopped at the Colorado Train Museum in Golden.  We had originally planned on going to a Wild Animal Santuary, but it was super hot out and we didn't think we'd see many animals or enjoy walking around in the heat.  Part of the train museum was inside, so there was a reprieve from the heat.

Karsten loved exploring the trains, he would get on one and look around then he was ready to see what was next.  His favorite was climbing up ladders, turning knobs or ringing bells.

See the boys in the window on the top of this train?

This car seems to be used for birthday parties or other events at the museum.  This little table nook was in the back and up a vertical ladder.  Liam was a bit timid to get up there but Karsten scrambled right up.

Oh this smile from Liam...when you ask him to smile, sometimes you'll get the silly face above or the funny smile.  As soon as you snap the picture, he laughs and I always miss the great, laughing smile!

All aboard!

This gigantic train clears the snow on the tracks.  It was HUGE!

Such a little guy with all these big trains!

The museum was working on adding walking paths around all of these trains.  We didn't mind climbing over the train tracks, the boys thought it was pretty cool.  Don't worry - these were non functional tracks that were part of the museum.

We were getting hot so we headed inside to check out the basement.  This giant train is built out of wood and they added an old train dashboard to the drivers area.  The boys loved playing on this - Karsten drove and Liam was the co-pilot.

There was also a model train village in the basement - we could donate a quarter and the train would run for a while.  We were the only ones in the basement so the boys could run from one end to the other to try and find the train.  They loved this!

Kudos to Scott for this great selfie idea!

After a while at the train museum, it was time to load up and drive another hour or so into Breckenridge.  It was a beautiful drive - hard to believe that we were on the same highway that took us through Kansas.  After much research and reading review online, we decided on The WedgeWood Lodge for our hotel.  It was fantastic - great space, fantastic location, super clean and reasonable price.

We loved having a kitchen so we could bring food and eat breakfast in our room.  Scott had boiled 18 eggs for us to bring for breakfasts, but when I repacked our cooler leaving Linda and Leland's house, I left the eggs in their fridge. DRAT!  We still had plenty of other stuff to eat.

The boys LOVED these spiral stairs and went up and down over and over again!  They really wanted to sleep in the loft rather than the room downstairs, but we were worried about them waking up at night and trying to come down the stairs and falling.

Our hotel was within walking distance to Main Street which was super convenient.  We walked through this park that had a beautiful stream running through it!

The boys were shocked at how cold the water was!  The weather in Breckenridge was perfect - we had shorts and t-shirts on today but when we walked home we really could have used a hoodie!

After dinner, we headed home and got the boys to bed, then Scott and I enjoyed this view from our Patio.
