We hit the road after work, so it was going to be a late night. The boys started to get sleepy around their normal bedtime, so they watched a short movie which made them sleepy and thankfully they fell asleep a little bit later.

When we (finally) made it to Iowa, we carried two sleepy boys into the hotel; however, the lights woke them up and they remembered that they got to see Trent and Taylor! After a short chat with Trent and Taylor, we went back to our room to get everyone ready for bed. Unfortunately, Karsten melts down when he is overtired and bedtime did.not.go.well. Everything was wrong - he needed covers, he didn't want covers, Liam was talking to him, the light was too bright, it was too dark...you get the idea. To complicate things, he started to cough on Thursday and by Friday night he was coughing quite a bit. The screaming and crying at bedtime only made the coughing worse.
Finally, we all got calmed down and went to sleep.
In the morning, Scott got up to take a shower but the boys and I were still sleeping. All of a sudden, Karsten had a coughing fit and started making the croup sounds. I sent him into the shower for the steam to help open his throat so he could breathe better. Thankfully it calmed down but it made me very worried for what would happen that night. Croup is notorious for striking at night and once it gets hold of Karsten, we end up at the ER for a steriod treatment.
His doctor is open on Saturday mornings during the winter, so I called and left a message for her to call me. I was hoping she would call in a steriod so I could get it in his system and avoid a trip to the ER in Iowa. Thankfully, she agreed that we were on the path I feared and she called in a steriod. If he still had croupy sounds and trouble breathing, she said we should take him to the ER. Fingers crossed that tonight would go smoothly.
