Sunflowers

There is a farm about 30 minutes from our house where they plant several fields of sunflowers.  Apparently they've been doing this for years, but it was all over Facebook this year.  There were posts from the farmer's wife about when the sunflowers may bloom and commenters talked about coming from different states to admire the beauty.

We set out to visit the sunflowers on what had started as an overcast day.  By the time we got there, it was sunny and the boys were not happy about looking at my camera and hurting their eyes.

We drove past the main field of sunflowers and found the 'hidden' field which was right around the corner.  While there were 20 cars at the main field, there was just us and one other car at this field.

The boys thought it was cool that we were walking right in between the sunflowers.

I love how Liam is looking at Karsten in this picture - he wants to do everything his big brother does!

Then they were off to explore the field.

While we were exploring, this dog walked up to us and sat down in front of the boys.  She was so nice and the boys loved her!  I was concerned that someone had lost their dog, because she was obviously a pet.  Scott said she was obviously just a farm dog out exploring - oops, silly city girl, Lisa.

When the dog wandered off to explore without us, the boys were disappointed and went out to search for her.

I love this picture!

Scott showed the boys the pollen from the flowers, and Liam was checking to see if this flower had it.

My boys - darn that sun!

They will even allow you to pick sunflowers, they just ask for a donation in the donation box.  The boys thought it was pretty cool that they could pick a flower.  Note for next year - bring a knife because these stems are super thick!

One last look at sunflowers as far as I could see - beautiful!
