Soccer player

We signed Karsten up for soccer and today was his first soccer game. Neither Scott or I played soccer, so we don't have much soccer knowledge.  Soccer seems like a good first sport to start with - we'll see how it goes.

Ready to head to practice.  The socks I got him were so tall they could have been thigh high rather than below the knee.  No worries, I knew that wasn't right, so he didn't look silly with his socks pulled up too high.

It was so unbearably hot today, probably 100 degrees out.  I thought it would be a good idea for Karsten to wear a hat to keep the sun off his face. We didn't think that you don't really wear hats in soccer.  Oops!

His team has a 30 minute practice then a 30 minute game.  There are eight boys on his team, so during the game, they sub in and out so everyone can play. The kids don't really understand that they can't leave the field whenever they want - they walked off when they needed a drink, when someone kicked them, or if they saw something interesting going on on the sidelines.

I was unprepared for entertaining Liam during the game. I forgot snacks and toys for him to play with. Luckily, the phone saved the day and entertained him for a bit and helped him forget how hot he was.

At first, Karsten would just stand there and watch everyone run after the ball.  After some encouraging, he started running after the pack of kids with the ball.  He got a few kicks in, and they may or may not have been going the right direction. :)

He gets so red when he gets hot, and since it was uber hot outside, he was almost the same color as his jersey.

Action shot!

Trying to stay cool and entertained.  He would have been happy to run onto the field with Karsten.

This was so cute - it took a bit for the coaches to explain to the kids what they were supposed to do.  Once they figured it out, they had a great time giving fives!

It was a good first game, hopefully next week will be cooler!

We stopped to go to the restroom on the way out of the ball fields and while Liam and I were waiting for Scott and Karsten outside the bathroom, I saw this little mouse come out of the bathroom building.  EWWWWW, yuk yuk yuk!
