Annual Cookie Tradition

Several years ago, my mom and I started the tradition of spending a day baking cookies.  I take a day off of work and we bake all day long.  Before I had kids, we would negotiate what time I would arrive at her house because I would want to sleep in.  I would rush to get to her house by 10a or 10:30am.  Ah, how times have changed.  This year, I dropped the boys off at Gail's, stopped at the grocery store and got to my mom's around 8:30am.

This year we baked white chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip cookies, gingersnap cookies, butterscotch oatmeal cookies, white chocolate cranberry cookies and we had two new additions with apple cider caramel cookies and oreo chocolate chip cookies. We also made cupcakes. It was a busy day!

The oreo cookies inside a chocolate chip cookie were HUGE.  I didn't get all of them positioned correctly in the oven, so some of the oreos were vertical rather than horizontal.  These were good while they were warm because the chocolate chip cookie was soft and the oreo was melted into gooey goodness.

We frosted the cupcakes then rolled them in decorative sugar so they had sparkle.  Then we added chocolate chips for eyes and other decorations for the mouth and nose.

After dinner (and eating the cupcakes), we video chatted with my mom so Karsten could tell her about how much he liked the snowmen.  Karsten quickly got distracted by something and Liam kept trying to grab the screen and was talking (aka babbling) to her.
