I started off by tucking all of his school papers into a cute magazine holder I found at Target. I had two of them and thought it should last me a while. HA - those quickly filled up and I began a pile of school papers on the desk in Karsten's room. I knew I needed to sort them and determine which ones I wanted to keep, but I had no idea how I wanted to tame the chaos.
A few Google searches later, I decided to use this idea I found on the I Heart Organizing blog. I love her blog - anytime I read it, I feel motivated to organize something in our house. Plus, she was making it so easy, I could just print her labels and papers then VOILA, organization. For each year of school, I would insert the papers I wanted to archive, add a school picture to the folder and I am set.
The labels and the papers were the easy part. Sorting through all of his papers was the hard part. Luckily, Scott helped me, otherwise I would still be sitting at the table agonizing over which papers to toss. We took pictures of a lot of papers and art I wanted to remember but not necessarily keep. We decided to buy two file boxes and make two sets of labels, folders, etc to ensure I would do the same thing for Liam. :)
Here is the end result before I added Karsten's papers and put the box away. It makes me so happy!

I have three ring binders. I toss what I don't want to keep and put the others in the binders. It's been good so far. One binder per year or perhaps a binder per school, not sure yet.
That was my first choice too; however, when I saw this idea, I decided to give it a try. We'll see!
